Danilo Gallinari injured his ankle in the Nuggets loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night. After coming down awkwardly on the back of D.J. Augustin’s foot, Gallo limped off the court and headed straight to the locker room, he did not return. On the night of the injury Gallo stated he thought this sprain was worse than the one that had kept him out for six games earlier in the season.
Today news out of Gallo's home country of Italy is that he is expecting to miss about a month of game action. According to Davide Chinellato of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gallo has stated he expects to miss three to four weeks. Just reading the writing on the wall, if Gallo is out four weeks that means he would be coming back with about 8 games remaining on the schedule, which may be a little late in the game to risk re-injury. Yes Nuggets fans, it's feasible that Gallo is done for the season.
His injury couldn't come at a more inopportune time for the team. The Nuggets are about to begin a seven game home stand that features five sub five hundred teams. If the team had any hopes of making the post season it would require a near perfect record in the next seven games, a proposition that seems unlikely without Denver's best player. Indeed, this news seems to dash what little hope was remaining for the season and for the Nuggets at this point it may be best to focus solely on development and draft position.
