In an interesting bit of timing after Arron Afflalo seemed to publicly call out coach Brian Shaw and teammates after the Denver Nuggets lost their 5th straight game and 12th of their last 13th to the Detroit Pistons Friday night, Chris Dempsey has come out with a blog post today saying the Nuggets are looking for a first round pick in exchange for their guard.
It says in part:
The Nuggets are holding firm to seeking a first-round pick from teams wanting to trade for shooting guard Arron Afflalo, according to NBA sources.
There have been no takers, although interest remains high for Afflalo’s services. Teams don’t want to relinquish a first rounder for a player that might walk on them at the end of the season. Afflalo has a player option for the final year of his contract.
While this seems like the Nuggets are being active, it's important to not that Dempsey points out that there have been no takers for that particular scenario. So in essence the Nuggets are publicly setting the bar high for AAA, but have received no offers along those lines.
It would be great to get a first round pick for AAA, but since he has that player option it makes it difficult. Meanwhile Wilson Chandler (who can be bought out next season for 2 million) is likely on a much more attractive contract than that of Afflalo. We shall see. It will prove to be an interesting trade Deadline.
