In a move that is sure to raise brows due to the timing of it, per reports from Shams Charania of ESPN among others, the Denver Nuggets have relieved both former head coach Michael Malone and former general manager Calvin Booth of their duties this morning. It is a shock move, to say the least, considering the timing of it all and the current situation of the season.
With just a week to go left in the season, and playoff/play-in seeding well in the air, it is an interesting move to say the least. David Adelman will be taking over as the interim head coach. We’ll see what his coaching looks like in the remaining three games in the season, as well as beyond that. There has not been an interim general manager named as of the writing of this article.
Michael Malone is a legend for the Denver Nuggets and should be remembered as such. He was the coach that helped win their first title in franchise history. The winningest coach in franchise history should be honored with respect and dignity by fans. The coach meant a lot to the team and it’s a period of Nuggets history that will never be forgotten. Malone seemed to have lost the player’s efforts over the course of this season. The defense has fallen off a cliff and into the sea. No doubt that those are contributing factors to this decision.
KSE and Josh Kroenke released a statement: “This decision was not made lightly and was evaluated very carefully, and we do it only with the intention of giving our group the best chance at competing for the 2025 NBA Championship.”
Now we look to the playoffs.
