In an interview on Monday with CBS Denver, Nuggets coach Michael Malone said he had coronavirus at some point shortly after the NBA season was suspended in March.
Interestingly, this wasn’t revealed to him until months later when he was able to undergo antibody testing.
“I’d say around March 20, I started not feeling well, and we began reaching out to team doctors to see if I could get a test,” Malone said. “Unfortunately, at that time, there was no testing available.”
Malone was able to get the antibody test around Memorial Day weekend, after which the team doctor notified Malone that he had in fact tested positive.
Malone detailed some of the nuances of the situation in the interview, in particular how it affected both his family and the rest of the organization. The Nuggets released a statement on March 19 indicating that a member of the organization had tested positive back then, meaning Malone wasn’t the only one on the team affected.
Fortunately, it seems that Malone is in good health and in good spirits as he prepares the team for the potential re-start of the season in Orlando. “I like to say that I got coronavirus and I kicked its butt.”
