We're officially worried for the Nuggets. For starters, Denver just surrendered 124 points in a home loss to 8-24 Philadelphia, which represents the wildest offensive showing from the Sixers in the Mile High City since they rung up 133 points there with a championship team way back in February 1983. And now more defensive woe looms Monday night, when the Nuggets have to visit Golden State with Stephen Curry rather due to break out. Curry made only 51 3-pointers in December, shooting an uncharacteristically mortal 37.8 percent from deep, but he hit seven triples when the Nuggets lost by 24 at home to the Warriors on Nov. 10.

The Nuggets have had four straight games go down to the wire, coming inches from beating the Hawks on a Wilson Chandler runner and inches from a miraculous, four-points-in-three-seconds sequence that would have sent Friday's game against Philly on a six-foot bank shot from Gary Harris. Either one of those shots could have them in playoff position, but Chandler's incredible, game-saving block on Andrew Wiggins on Wednesday still has them in a tie for eighth with Sacramento, with the Kings coming to Denver for the first of four meetings on Tuesday.

The Nuggets: improved.

I was all set to give them a bump. Had it all set. They'd won 5 of 7 including a heart-breaker loss to Atlanta. They might have turned the corner, right? Then they lost to the Sixers, at home, when Philly was on a back to back, with nine guys available. Just incredible. Two steps forward, 2.5 steps back, every time for Denver. Most concerning is that this defense is just so bad. Not even close to playoff-caliber.
