It appears as though several of the Denver Nuggets players have arrived in Atlanta for a week of unofficial workouts and team bonding. Nuggets forward Paul Millsap owns a large gym in Atlanta that is home to at least two full-sized basketball courts and a weight room, making it the perfect place for the Nuggets to spend a week playing pickup and getting in some group skill workouts.
It’s hard to tell which players are there and which are not but it appears attendees include:
Jamal Murray
Monte Morris
Malik Beasley
Devaughn Akoon-Purcell
Juancho Hernangomez
Tyler Lydon
Trey Lyles
Mason Plumlee
Michael Porter Jr.
Jarred Vanderbilt
Thomas Welsh
There are also a couple members of the Denver Nuggets coaching staff are also seen in the video above.
Millsap himself does not appear in any of the videos of photos so it is hard to know if he is in attendance this week or if he is just providing the facility but I would assume he will be around at some point this week. Nikola Jokic and Gary Harris do not appear to be in attendance and will likely miss the entire week as they will be helping host a Basketball Without Borders camp in Belgrade, Serbia beginning on Wednesday. Isaiah Thomas, Will Barton, and Torrey Craig also appear absent from the workouts so far.
While it’s great to see so may players together, one player stands out to me the most in these clips: Juancho Hernangomez. Juancho had a very trying year last season as he recovered from mononucleosis and was cut from the rotation. He’s become a bit of an afterthought on a team full of young talent but his rookie season provided some extremely bright flashes of upside. Said Juancho of the workouts, “The big teams have a really good chemistry on the court and this week is going to be big for us.”
We’ll continue to post updates from this mini-camp as they come available. But at nearly the exact halfway point of the offseason, it’s exciting to see the Nuggets back on a court together.
