A handful of hours after the report that Paul Millsap has a broken toe and will be evaluated back in Denver for a timetable, another Woj bomb from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN dropped a three to four week timeline on Gary Harris returning from his right hip injury.
Harris injured the hip against the Toronto Raptors earlier in this road trip and once an MRI confirmed the injury the assumption was that we were talking weeks and, not days for him to come back. Hearing that it’s true doesn’t make that pill any easier to swallow though, and it’s still not ideal to potentially be without both Millsap and Harris until the new year. Millsap’s timeframe is still pending, but Denver is now down three starters with Will Barton still working back from his groin injury and will have to scramble to fill the minutes with bench players.
This isn’t the worst news Denver could have had. It means he didn’t tear his labrum, and no surgery is usually better than going under the knife. This is where Nuggets fans feel like the basketball gods toy with their emotions: things aren’t dire enough to go into immediate despair, but the Nuggets will struggle to win some games short-handed that they would absolutely be set up to win with a full complement of players.
Its Nugglife. And now we’ll see if this is the year that the sheer volume of talent on the roster can overcome the chains of that life. Denver’s bench is better, the players are more experienced, and coach Michael Malone has been pulling many of the right strings so far. Get ready for that ride, Nuggets fans – and hope for quick recoveries for all of Denver’s wounded, tired masses yearning to play free.
