According to the Denver Post’s Mike Singer, Denver Nuggets rookie R.J. Hampton is expected to enter the NBA’s Health and Safety protocol:
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed the report, also detailing that Hampton is expected to be out through the NBA’s All-Star break. The Nuggets return from the break on March 12.
While the circumstances of the reason Hampton is to enter protocol are unclear, it is noteworthy that Woj also mentioned that other contact tracing is going on within the Nuggets. Hampton played 9:14 in last night’s win over the Oklahoma City Thunder (and had a really sick dunk), which could mean other players on the team were potentially exposed or at the very least had been around Hampton.
If more Nuggets players are determined to need to enter the protocol it could be a blow as they try to end the first half of the season on a high note. Denver has three games remaining on the schedule before the break, tomorrow against the Chicago Bulls, March 2 at Milwaukee and March 4 at Indiana.
